Volkswagen Golf 2 Rallye Groupe A
1989 - For the purpose of registration in group A Rallyé, Volkswagen commercialised the Rallye road version with a production of 5000 examples. On a mechanical level this Golf has an integral sycro gearbox and a G60 compressor, which avoids the resitrictions related to turbocharges rallye engines. In 1991, Erwin Weber was the German rallye champion at it's wheel, with Manfred Hiemer as his co-pilote. Generally, the career of the Golf G60 was very short lived with only three world events, the entire project to fit a Golf with a compressor and four wheel drive was abruptly stopped.
