Renault 5 Le Car Van
During its attempt to take on the market in the United States, Renault marketed the R5 under the name "Renault Le Car". The USA proved to be a winning bet for Renault, and so Heuliez produced a specific version inspired by American vans in 1979 . The Car Van lost its windows and its rear window in favour of polyester panels pierced with portholes. The look was complemented by bumpers taken from the Renault 5 Alpine and a spare wheel on the tailgate, as well as a specific rainbow decoration and specific rims. The interior was also completely modified. Production was planned for 200 units, and was finally integrated into the range of the manufacturer. The customer was to supply a Renault 5 and pay the conversion cost of 12,500 francs, or 40% of the price of the car.
