The history of the Peugeot family is a powerful symbol of France’s industrialization. In 1810, Jean-Pierre and Jean-Frédéric Peugeot transformed the family mill into a steelworks. A visionary, Armand Peugeot sought to diversify the family business and develop “velocipedes.” A few years later, he was behind the commercialization of the Type 3, the first Peugeot automobile produced in series. He then founded La Société Anonyme des Automobiles Peugeot to further develop automobile production. Meanwhile, the children of the Peugeot brothers retained their company to manufacture bicycles and tools.
