Who is Jean-Luc Thérier?

Long before Sébastien Loeb, French rallying was already shining internationally thanks to the “Musketeers”. During the very first World Rally Championship, in 1973, four French drivers helped the Alpine brand win! These drivers are Jean-Pierre Nicolas, Bernard Darniche, Jean-Claude Andruet and… Jean-Luc Thérier. The one nicknamed the “Fox” (Thérier, get it?) unofficially won the first world rally championship. At the time, there was only one manufacturer's title and no rewards for the drivers. The same year, he was still titled French asphalt rally champion, still with Alpine. He is also one of the rare French drivers to have won the national title on asphalt and dirt. He has two coronations in each category. In the world, he won five world victories. The last one was at the 1980 Tour de Corse with the Porsche 911 SC Gr.4. Unfortunately, in 1981, mechanical problems plagued his season. At the Rally Portugal, for example, Jean-Luc Thérier and his Porsche were forced to retire following a breakdown in the fuel injection system. Despite this abandonment, the Porsche 911 SC “Almeras” entered rally history thanks to its fabulous French driver.
