In 1977, the Renault 14 earned the nickname "the pear" in the public eye following an advertising campaign that compared the compact hatchback to the fruit. Launched to compete with cars like the Simca 1100 or the Volkswagen Golf, the R14 was quite modern for its time. The automotive press praised its merits and strengths: comfort, fuel economy, equipment... The TS was the sportiest and top-of-the-range model in the R14 lineup. It featured an X engine—the result of a surprising partnership with PSA—delivering 70 horsepower. Its acceleration and performance won people over, and the 14 TS has become a true collector's item over time.
