Long before Sébastien Loeb's Puma Rally1 Hybrid, the Ford Puma name was already echoing across the special stages of Monte Carlo! Back in the late 1990s, M-Sport launched a striking small coupe in Super1600 specification (Rallying's 2nd Division). While its styling was hugely appealing, the car had to compete against a crowded field of rivals. Nevertheless, many young drivers launched their careers in it, including Jari-Matti Latvala—future three-time World Rally vice-champion and Toyota Team Principal. In 2004, he kicked off his season in the Ford Puma S1600 under the Astra Racing banner. On his Monte Carlo debut, he was caught out and crashed on SS12; however, the Finn posted several impressive stage times, ensuring his Puma earned a lasting place in the hearts of rally fans!
